Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, the Butte County Clerk-Recorder/Elections Office is closed to the public for in-person services as a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Until further notice- Mandatory and essential services will be provided only by mail and online.

Real Estate – There will be no real estate recordings accepted for walk-in customers. Documents can be submitted electronically or mailed in for recording purposes. For more information on how to record electronically, contact:

Birth, Death and Marriage Records Requests – Requests for birth, death or marriage records can be submitted online through our website at Mail in requests will be processed daily.

Official Records copies & searches – Any member of the public may view the online index of document recordings or maps through our website at Copy requests may be submitted via mail or through our website.

Fictitious Business Name Statements – Applications are available on our website and can be mailed in with payment.

Marriage License – All civil ceremonies have been cancelled as of this time and no new appointments will be made until further notice. Those needing to obtain a marriage license for emergency purposes only, may contact our office at 530-552-3400 to inquire if circumstances have changed.
