Today the Judicial Council of California issued Temporary Rule #12 expanding the use of eService in most civil cases.  This temporary rule intentionally reduces service by mail by requiring attorneys to use electronic service more often.

The two relevant updates from the new order are:

  1. Represented parties must ACCEPT eService of notices
  2. Represented parties must eServe another party if that other party requests notice by eService.
