Document Recording – There will be no document recording accepted for walk-in customers. Electronic recording through title companies remains unchanged. We will also process documents sent through the mail.
Official Record Purchases – Official records (purchase of copies) submitted through the mail will be processed. Completed requests will be returned through the US mail.
Marriage Licenses, Ceremonies and Marriage Deputizations – Marriage Licenses, Marriage Ceremonies and Marriage Deputizations have been suspended until further notice.
Vital Records Requests – Requests for vital records (birth, death, and marriage records) submitted online through the Vitalchek service, as well as requests through the mail will be processed. Completed requests will be returned through the US mail.
Fictitious Business Names, Notary, EIRs, Professional Services – Processed via mail only.
Passports – Passport application processing is postponed until further notice.
General Phone Calls and Emails – Phone calls, voicemails and emails may be answered based on availability of staff.
Recorder’s Office Responsibilities
The County Recorder’s Office is responsible for the recording or filing of documents which give constructive notice of transactions relating to real estate and are authorized by law. Documents are preserved and archived for reproduction for property searches and genealogical research. Our office registers all birth, death and public marriages for Placer County. Records are available to the public to search, view, and copy for a fee, as allowed by law.
Clerk’s Office Responsibilities
The County Clerk’s Office issues marriage licenses, performs marriage ceremonies in English and Spanish and registers confidential marriage licenses. Our office provides direct services to the public that facilitate business and personal transactions through the filing of Fictitious Business Name Statements, Notary Bonds, as well as other professional registrations.
