Beginning January 1, 2021, it will be cheaper to purchase most online
Civil, Small Claims and Probate documents
December 11, 2020 – Effective January 1, 2021, the San Diego Superior Court will adjust its fee structure for documents purchased from the online Register of Actions, which holds documents for many of the Court’s civil, small claims, and probate cases.
The new fee structure will be $1.00 per page for the first five pages and $0.40 for each additional page, up to a maximum cost of $50.00 per document.
“In the spirit of increased home and remote access to court services, we have introduced several new online capabilities in recent months and we are now modifying the pricing for documents purchased online,” said San Diego Superior Court Executive Officer Mike Roddy. “We hope this new fee structure will encourage court users who need copies of civil, small claims and probate documents to go online, rather than coming into the courthouse and waiting in line.”
The Court estimates that up to 79% of document download customers will see savings, for example, paying $6.50 less for a one-page document than in the current fee structure. Through the end of this year, the fee structure is a flat $7.50 for the first ten pages, regardless of whether the document is one or ten pages, and $.07 per page thereafter, up to a maximum of $40.00 per document.
Copies continue to be available for in-person requests at the Court’s business offices and on research kiosks in the local courthouses for a fee of $0.50 per page, including documents that are not posted online.
