SANTA CLARA COUNTY IMPORTANT PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT: SANTA CLARA COUNTY SUPERIOR COURTS REMAIN OPEN FOR EMERGENCY MATTERS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

The Santa Clara County Superior Court reminds our community the Court remains open for business Monday through Friday, including for people who need an emergency order protecting them from domestic violence, harassment, stalking or other abuse, or who need emergency child custody and visitation orders.

While Court operating hours have been reduced due to the COVID-19 pandemic, holidays, and budget cuts, the Court has NOT CLOSED its doors.

“We want the public to understand the Courts are open in Santa Clara County. If you need emergency orders, help is available. Our community’s emergency legal needs will not stop and wait for this public health crisis to end. Our judicial officers and staff will continue to safely serve the public through this very critical time in our County’s history,” said Presiding Judge Deborah A. Ryan.

Judges are available to issue emergency protective orders around the clock.

Courtrooms are continuing to hear matters previously scheduled for this week, December 14th – 18th, resuming again after the Winter Holiday Furlough on January 4, 2021. During the Winter Holiday Furlough, December 21st – January 1st, the Court will hear limited calendars, including emergency matters.

The Restraining Order Self-Help Center / Family Law Facilitator’s Office remains open, Monday through Friday, for both in-person and remote assistance. Located in the Family Justice Center Courthouse at 201 N. First Street in San Jose, this service is available to self-represented parties (those without a lawyer). For more information about hours, please visit www.scscourt.org (click on “Contact the Self Help Center”).

To safeguard public health, everyone entering the courthouse must wear an approved face covering and maintain safe social distance. The Court asks the community to assist in spreading the word that the Court remains open.
