The Superior Court of California, County of Sierra continues to closely monitor state and local responses to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and will follow guidance provided by the state public health agencies and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), available here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus

Currently, there are no changes to normal court operations within the Court. Any future changes or updates will be posted on the website and communicated as appropriate. Any changes in court operations will be based on the guidance provided by public health agencies.

If you are currently experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19 (or any flu-like symptoms) and have business with the court, please consider the following options that are available to you to minimize coming to the courthouse:

  • Jury Service: (530) 289-2931 for an update on the status of a trial date

If you are required to appear in court, please note the following:

Court Appearances – If you are scheduled for a court appearance, you must follow the specific instructions below. In most instances, an appearance may be made telephonically.

The Court has temporarily expanded the types of hearings that are eligible for a telephonic appearance without prior approval by the judge. Please contact the court at (530) 289-3698, Option 0, for this information.

Traffic – If you are scheduled to appear in court for a traffic matter and are experiencing any acute respiratory illness symptoms (i.e. cough, shortness of breath, headaches), flu-like symptoms, have a fever, or are coughing or sneezing, please do not come to court.

Please contact the court at (530) 289-3698, Option 1 for Traffic, to reschedule your appearance to a later date. Traffic citations can also be paid online here: https://sierra.epay-it.com/.

Criminal – If you are scheduled to appear in court for a misdemeanor or felony matter and are experiencing any acute respiratory illness symptoms (i.e. cough, shortness of breath, headaches), flu-like symptoms, have a fever, or are coughing or sneezing, please do not come to court.

Defendants who have an attorney should contact the attorney for instruction.

Defendants who do not have an attorney should contact the court at (530) 289-3698, Option 2 for Criminal, for further instructions. A telephone appearance may be allowed.
