LASC: Superior Court of Los Angeles County Probate Division Announces Judicial Assignment Changes
Changes to Impact the Stanley Mosk, Beverly Hills, Governor George Deukmejian (Long Beach) and Metropolitan Courthouses
Effective Sept. 15, 2025, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Probate Division will implement the following changes to courtroom operations:
- Judge Michael R. Powell will be assigned to Department 29 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse located at 111 N. Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012. All matters previously assigned to Department 29 are assigned to Judge Powell, unless otherwise notified.
- The Probate Long Cause Trial Courtroom in Department S09 at Governor George Deukmejian (Long Beach) Courthouse located at 275 Magnolia, Long Beach, CA 90802, will be moved to Department 64 at the Metropolitan Courthouse located at 1945 South Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90007. All matters currently calendared in Department S09 will be scheduled in Department 64.
- Judge David J. Cowan will be assigned to Department 64 at the Metropolitan Courthouse. Judge Cowan previously assisted with overflow Long Cause Trials in Department 200 at the Beverly Hills Courthouse located at 9355 Burton Way, Beverly Hills, CA 90210. All Probate Long Cause Trials matters currently calendared in Department 200 will be scheduled in Department 64.
All matters currently calendared shall remain scheduled on the dates and times previously set. Counsel and parties are instructed to indicate the assigned judicial officer and department on the first page of all documents filed with the clerk to ensure proper departmental assignment, calendaring of hearings and document routing.
