Juvenile Justice Courtroom Assignment Changes at the Sylmar Juvenile Courthouse

Department 276 Will Open and Department 277 Will Transition to a Juvenile Mental Health Competency Hub Courtroom August 3

Effective July 6, 2026, the Juvenile Division will implement the following changes at the Sylmar Juvenile Courthouse, located at 16350 Filbert St., Sylmar:

  • Commissioner Laura Streimer will be assigned to newly established Department 276. All matters currently assigned to Department 277, except Drug Court and Secured Youth Treatment Facility (SYTF) matters, will be reassigned to Department 276 for all purposes, unless otherwise notified. Parties appearing in Department 276 may appear remotely through LACourtConnect.
  • Judge David Yaroslavsky will continue to preside over Department 277, which will continue to hear all Drug Court and SYTF matters.

Beginning Aug. 3, 2026, Department 277 will transition to a Juvenile Mental Health Competency Hub Courtroom for cases originating from the Antelope Valley, East Los Angeles, Pomona and Sylmar areas.

  • Department 277 will be assigned all proceedings related to a minor’s competency, including competency determinations, progress reviews and restoration of competency proceedings.

All matters currently calendared shall remain scheduled on the dates and times previously set, unless otherwise notified. Counsel and parties are instructed to indicate the assigned judicial officer and department on the first page of all documents filed with the clerk to ensure proper departmental assignment, calendaring of hearings and document routing.
