Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk: Legislative Updates Notice

Assembly Bill 2224, (Chapter 292, Statues of 2026), was signed into law on September 18, 2026. The following updates will be made to Los Angeles County
recording fees for all documents received on or after January 1, 2027, subject to Board approval and required notice. This legislation will make the following changes:

• Per Government Code (GC) § 27361(a)(1) – The fee for recording and indexing every instrument, paper, or notice required or permitted by law to be recorded shall go from $10 to fifteen dollars ($15) for recording the first page and from $3 to four dollars ($4) for each additional page.
• The fee for recording a Release of Lien shall go from $20 to thirty dollars $30, based on the updated base recording fee (Per GC § 27361.3)
  • For any Release of Lien executed by the state, county, city or district, the fee shall be two times the base recording fee of the year the original lien was recorded without a fee.
    • Original Lien Recorded 2009 and prior: $8 release fee
    • Original Lien Recorded 2010 to 2026: $20 release fee
    • Original Lien Recorded 2027 to present: $30 release fee
• The following fees will no longer be assessed by the Recorders Office:
  • PENALTY PRINT – GC § 27361(a)(1)
  • NON-CONFORMING PAGE FEE – GC§ 27361(a)(2)
  • REFERENCING FEE – GC§ 27361.2(a)
  • INDEXING FEE – GC§ 27361.8(a)
