Reminder: Stanley Mosk Courthouse to Implement New Department Numbering System, Effective May 4

New Department Email Accounts Also Effective May 4

As a reminder, on May 4, 2026, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County will transition to a new department numbering system at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse designed to streamline navigation and enhance the court user experience.

The updated department numbering system is intended to make it easier for court users to locate departments within the courthouse intuitively. Under the new numbering system, the department (or courtroom) number will match the room number, with the first number of each department number corresponding to the floor on which the courtroom is located, providing a clearer and more intuitive wayfinding system throughout the courthouse. All notices printed on or after May 4, 2026, will reflect new department numbers. The LACourtConnect check-in page will update automatically on May 4 with new department numbers.

Court users can locate the Stanley Mosk Courthouse’s new renumbering system here on the Court’s website.

Old Department Number New Department Number Room Number Floor
Department 1 Department 534 534 Fifth Floor
Department 90 Department 541 541 Fifth Floor

New Department Email Accounts

In addition to the new department renumbering system at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, effective May 4, the department email accounts will be revised to reflect the new department numbers. New department accounts will follow the same naming convention as before, along with the Court’s new email domain. For example, SMCDept1@lacourt.org will now become SMCDept534@lacourt.ca.gov. Communications sent to existing department accounts will be received and forwarded to the new department email account for 60 days following May 4, 2026. After that time, emails sent to old department email addresses will not be delivered.

Resource Page

As part of the rollout, the Court has created a dedicated webpage with detailed information about the new department numbers and department email accounts at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. Users can also access the page by visiting www.lacourt.ca.gov/help and typing “Lost at Mosk” into the search field.

Background on Renumbering

The current department numbering structure reflects the historical unification of municipal and superior courts following the passage of Proposition 220 in 1998. While this approach preserved continuity at the time, department numbers today often do not align logically with courtroom locations, creating confusion for court users.

The new department numbers are part of a broader effort to improve wayfinding within the Stanley Mosk Courthouse. In addition to the updated numbering system, the Court has introduced digital displays in front of every courtroom alongside major destinations such as the Self-Help Center and various Clerk’s Offices, featuring dynamic, department-specific information. These displays are designed to help court users more easily locate their destinations and receive real-time updates on courtroom activity. In addition to the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, the Court has also installed digital signage at the Pomona Courthouse, the Compton Courthouse, and the Michael D. Antonovich Antelope Valley Courthouse, with plans to expand the renumbering initiative to all 36 courthouses across Los Angeles County.
