Superior Court of Los Angeles County Rescinds 2019 General Order Requiring Courtesy Copies

General Order Mandating Civil E-Filing replaced by Local Rule 3.4; Courtesy Copy Provisions Removed

On March 20, 2026, Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II rescinded General Order 2019-GEN-014-00, which was issued in 2019 following the Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s initial implementation of mandatory electronic filing (efiling) of all documents in non-complex unlimited civil cases.

The provisions of the rescinded general order were later incorporated into Local Rule 3.4, which continues to govern filing requirements in these matters.

General Order 2019-GEN-014-00 also included requirements for the delivery of specified printed courtesy copies to assigned courtrooms. Those courtesy copy requirements are no longer applicable.

Attorneys and litigants are advised to review the courtroom information sheet for their assigned courtroom to determine whether any limited requests for printed courtesy copies apply. Courtroom information sheets are available on the Court’s website by navigating to “Types of Cases” along the navigation bar, selecting “Civil,” then “Tools for Court Users and Attorneys,” and then “Courtroom Information.”
