Superior Court of Los Angeles County Courthouses Will Be Closed on Friday, April 9, 2027, in Observance of Farmworkers Day
Senate Bill 1394, Signed by Governor Newsom, Eliminates Cesar Chavez Day and Designates Farmworkers Day as a Court Holiday
Governor Gavin Newsom recently signed Senate Bill 1394, which changes the state holiday from Cesar Chavez Day to Farmworkers Day, eliminating Cesar Chavez Day, previously observed on March 31, and designating April 10 as Farmworkers Day going forward. As a result, and because the holiday falls on a Saturday in 2027, the Court will be closed on Friday, April 9, 2027, in observance of Farmworkers Day.
Farmworkers Day is now a judicial holiday under California Code of Civil Procedure 135. It replaces Cesar Chavez Day, previously listed as a judicial holiday in California Government Code Section 6700. The Court will remain open on March 31, 2027.
