Superior Court of Los Angeles County to Expand Courthouse Renumbering Initiative to Four Additional Locations on Nov. 2, 2026

Pomona South, Van Nuys East, Van Nuys West and Metropolitan Courthouses to Adopt New Department Numbering System to Ease Navigation for Court Users

Building on the successful implementation of a new department numbering system at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse, the Superior Court of Los Angeles County is expanding its renumbering initiative to four additional courthouse locations as part of its ongoing efforts to improve navigation and enhance the court user experience.

Effective Monday, Nov. 2, 2026, the Pomona South, Van Nuys East, Van Nuys West and Metropolitan Courthouses will transition to the updated department numbering system as part of the Court’s overall courthouse renumbering initiative.

“Building on the success of the Stanley Mosk Courthouse renumbering initiative, we are taking another important step toward creating a more consistent and accessible experience at the Pomona South, Van Nuys East, Van Nuys West and Metropolitan Courthouses,” Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II said. “Aligning department numbers with courtroom locations will help court users navigate our facilities more easily and efficiently.”

The Court’s existing department numbering system reflects its history following court unification, when department numbers from the former municipal courts were retained and incorporated into the unified court structure. Over time, this resulted in department numbers that do not consistently correspond with room numbers or floors, creating challenges for court users trying to locate courtroom destinations.

A More Intuitive Courthouse Experience
The new numbering system aligns department numbers with floor and courtroom locations, making it easier for court users, justice partners and staff to identify departments based on the floor and room number. The first digit of each department number will correspond to the floor on which the courtroom is located, creating a more intuitive and consistent wayfinding experience.

Examples of the New Department Numbering System
The following examples illustrate how department numbers will change at the four participating courthouses:

Courthouse Current Department Number New Department Number Floor
Pomona South Department A Department 109 First Floor
Van Nuys East Department A Department 510 Fifth Floor
Van Nuys West Department 100 Department 305 Third Floor
Metropolitan Department 60 Department 308 Third Floor

Courthouse Information and Department Email Address Updates
As part of the rollout, the Court has added dedicated webpages for each participating courthouse on its Courthouse Renumbering Page. Each webpage has detailed information about the updated department numbers, including a crosswalk with old and new department numbers. The Courthouse Renumbering page can be accessed here.

Department email addresses will also be updated to reflect the new department numbers and will be active beginning Nov. 2, 2026. These new email addresses will be added to each courthouse renumbering webpage no later than Oct. 30, 2026. Legacy department email addresses will remain active through Jan. 8, 2027, after which emails sent to the old addresses will no longer be delivered.

Enhancing Courthouse Wayfinding Across the Court
This initiative builds on the successful implementation of the new numbering system at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse launched in May 2026. The expansion to Pomona South, Van Nuys East, Van Nuys West and the Metropolitan Courthouses marks the next phase of the Court’s broader effort to establish a more intuitive numbering system across its facilities.

Improving navigation and the overall court user experience is a priority of the Court’s 2025-2028 Strategic Plan. The renumbering initiative supports the plan’s goals of expanding access to justice, improving service delivery and strengthening operational efficiency.
