LASC: Superior Court of Los Angeles County to Increase Probate Court-Appointed Counsel Panel Rate
New Increased Rate to Promote Attorney Participation
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Probate Division has increased the hourly compensation rate for its Court-Appointed Counsel Panel on cases in which the Court determines that an adult client or his or her estate, or a minor client’s parent(s) or minor’s estate, has sufficient assets to pay. The rate increase is retroactive to July 1, 2025.
New Rate:
The new hourly rate shall not exceed $380, except in cases that require extraordinary expertise. The hourly rate remains $165 for cases where the Court finds an inability to pay.
The rate increase is memorialized in the Court’s Standing Order Re: Probate Divisions Court-Appointed Counsel (2025-SJ-006-00).
This increase follows a courtwide policy that ensures that available resources are allocated in a manner that promotes access to justice for all members of the public, provides a forum for the fair, expeditious resolution of disputes, and maximizes the use of available resources, including the adoption of cost-effective plans for the appointment of publicly compensated counsel.
The rate increase was made to serve as an incentive for attorneys to participate on the Court-Appointed Counsel Panel and to provide fair compensation when a litigant or their estate has sufficient assets to pay.
