LASC: Superior Court of Los Angeles County to Offer Minimum Continuing Legal Education Bench Conduct and Demeanor Training for Attorneys Interested in Becoming Temporary Judges

The Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Temporary Judge Program is offering training for eligible attorneys who are interested in applying to be a temporary judge, pursuant to California Rules of Court, Rule 2.812, et seq. Attorneys who have been members of the State Bar of California for 10 years are eligible to apply as a temporary judge.
The Court sponsors the program and is approved by the State Bar of California (Provider No. 485) as a provider of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) credit. Participants will receive three hours of in-person training on Bench Conduct and Demeanor.

Prepaid reservations are required and must be received by Oct. 7, 2025. Reservations and payment may be completed online at this link. No on-site payments will be accepted on the date of training.

This program will qualify for three hours of MCLE credit by the State Bar of California: one hour will apply to elimination of bias in the legal profession credit, one hour will apply to legal ethics credit and one hour will apply to general credit (of which zero hours will apply to prevention, detection and treatment of substance abuse/mental illness that impairs professional competence), as appropriate to the content of the program.
Appointment Process:
The decision to appoint any attorney as a temporary judge is within the discretion of the Presiding Judge. Serving as a temporary judge does not constitute an employment relationship with the Court.
