Superior Court of Los Angeles County Receives 2026 Justice Chin Technology Innovation Award
CourtHelp AI-Assisted Chatbot Recognized for Expanding Access to Justice With Personalized Responses
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County has been awarded the 2026 Justice Chin Technology Innovation Award in recognition of CourtHelp, an artificial intelligence-powered chatbot designed to assist court users in navigating the Court’s website and services.
The award was presented by retired California Supreme Court Justice Ming Chin during the statewide Judicial Branch Technology Summit. The Justice Chin Technology Innovation Award recognizes courts that have advanced access to justice through innovative technology solutions.
Launched on July 1, 2025, as part of the relaunch of www.LACourt.ca.gov, CourtHelp serves as a generative AI virtual assistant on the Court’s website, providing real-time guidance to users seeking information about court services, procedures, and resources using information from the Court’s website and from the Judicial Council of California’s website. By helping users quickly find relevant information, the program enhances accessibility and improves the overall user experience.
“This recognition reflects the Court’s ongoing commitment to improving access to justice through the thoughtful and innovative use of technology,” Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II said. “CourtHelp is one of many ways we are working to meet court users where they are by providing clear, accessible pathways to the information they need.”
The Justice Chin Technology Innovation Award was first presented in 2023 and highlights the growing role of technology in improving public access to court services. This is the first time the Superior Court of Los Angeles County has received the award. CourtHelp aligns with the Court’s Strategic Plan goals to enhance accessibility, improve the user experience, and foster innovation across all court operations.
