The Superior Court of Alameda County (Court) announced today the next phase of its ongoing effort to restore in-person services to the public, effective the week of May 24, 2021.

Starting Monday, May 24, the Probate clerk’s office located in the Berkeley Courthouse, 2120 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way will reopen. From 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. one public window will be open daily. Research terminals will also be available for public use in 30-minute sessions. To ensure compliance with social distancing requirements, the number of persons allowed into the courthouse at one time will be limited.

Also starting on May 24, one additional window in the clerk’s office at the Hayward Hall of Justice, 24405 Amador Street, will be open daily from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. for adoption-related filings. The Court will continue to monitor courthouse capacity to ensure compliance with social distancing requirements.

Starting Tuesday, May 25, in-person out-of-custody criminal pretrial hearings will be held two days each week at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse, 661 Washington Street in Oakland. Even-numbered cases will be heard in Department 108 on Tuesdays, and odd-numbered cases will be heard in Department 111 on Wednesdays. To comply with ongoing social distancing requirements, courtroom capacity will be limited; additional persons will be spaced outside the courtroom and in the lobby at 6-foot intervals until there is available space in the courtroom or their case is ready to be heard. Unless ordered otherwise, parties and counsel are encouraged to appear remotely via BlueJeans.

All visitors to any court facility must continue to comply with face covering and social distancing guidelines and will be subject to health screening protocols. As California moves toward its June 15, 2021, reopening, the Court will continue to restore additional in-person services as resources and public health guidelines permit.
