Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Court Commons to Host Free Self-Help Workshop in East Los Angeles and Pop-Up Exhibit in Lynwood
The interactive exhibit will make a stop in East Los Angeles on Saturday, July 25, followed by a visit to Lynwood on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County’s Court Commons will host a free Community Self-Help Workshop at the East Los Angeles Civic Center (4801 E. 3rd St., Los Angeles) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 25, 2026.
Court Commons is a mobile pop-up experience designed to inform and empower community members on key legal topics and career opportunities through meaningful community engagement, a key part of the Court’s 2025-2028 Strategic Plan.
Court Commons will also feature its pop-up exhibit at Lynwood City Hall (11330 Bullis Road, Lynwood) from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2026, as part of the city’s National Night Out.
“The Court is committed to strengthening its connection with communities across Los Angeles County and ensuring residents have the services, resources, and knowledge they need to navigate the justice system,” said Presiding Judge Sergio C. Tapia II. “As a mobile pop-up experience, Court Commons brings court resources, civic education, and interactive learning opportunities to communities, expanding access to justice, increasing transparency, and fostering greater trust between the Court and the people it serves.”
Self-Help Workshop at the East Los Angeles Civic Center, Saturday, July 25:
At the East Los Angeles Civic Center, workshops and clinics will be offered on multiple legal msubjects. Workshops will include an informational presentation followed by a Q&A, providing attendees without attorneys direct access to legal information. Clinics on Expungement and Joint Petitions for Dissolution will provide opportunities for assistance with completing and reviewing forms and for submitting documents to the Court.
On-Site Clinics:
Expungements
- Reduce barriers to employment, housing and education.
- Receive on-site assistance with completing and filing expungement forms.
- What to bring: Community members should bring their Superior Court of Los Angeles County case numbers they wish to expunge; copies of their criminal docket sheets and/or California Department of Justice rap sheet; a copy of their official identification; supporting documents and character letters.
Joint Petitions for Dissolution
- Learn about a joint process for a peaceful divorce.
- Receive reviews for completed Joint Petition for Dissolution or Joint Petition for Summary Dissolution documents.
- What to bring: Community members should bring completed Joint Petition for Dissolution or Joint Petition for Summary Dissolution documents. Both parties must be present.
Informational Workshops:
CARE Court
- Learn about assistance for loved ones with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or bipolar 1 with psychotic features.
- Learn about CARE Court eligibility and the petition process.
- Connect with Self-Help and Department of Mental Health resources.
Unlawful Detainers (Evictions)
- Learn about tenant and landlord rights and responsibilities and how the eviction process works.
Civil Harassment, Domestic Violence & Elder Abuse Restraining Orders
- Learn about the different types of restraining orders available and how someone may qualify.

Pop-Up Exhibit at Lynwood City Hall, Tuesday, Aug. 4
As part of National Night Out on Aug. 4, Court Commons will host a pop-up exhibit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lynwood City Hall, where residents can learn more about the Court and its resources, understand their legal rights, and navigate the judicial system.
Upcoming Court Commons Visits
In addition to the July and August events, Court Commons will continue to host quarterly workshops throughout Los Angeles County, including an upcoming visit to the Antelope Valley area in November. Times and locations will be announced on the Court Commons website at a future date.
Designed over a span of two years, Court Commons is a modular, pop-up exhibition created to inform, engage, and empower communities to learn more about the Court and the judicial system. Housed in a custom-built trailer that expands into 2,000 square feet of exhibition space, Court Commons brings the Court’s mission, services, and personnel directly to the public, promoting transparency, inspiring confidence, and expanding access to justice.
